Haunted Hollow 5K

It was a beautiful day for the first annual Haunted Hollow 5k on Saturday, October 22nd. Seventy runners participated in this family friendly event at Walker Johnston Park in Urbandale, Iowa. The Des Moines BYU Alumni Chapter sponsored the race to raise grant money for Iowa students attending Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Grants are awarded to students with the understanding that they accept a moral obligation in the future to repay--or replenish--what they have been given, so other students can have the same opportunity to learn. For the 5K run, some participants got in the Halloween spirit by wearing costumes. There were two penguins, a ladybug, a little girl riding an ostrich, a superhero and his sidekick, and a member of the Russia mafia, to name a few. The Des Moines Chapter of the BYU Alumni Association sponsors various activities and volunteer opportunities throughout the year to benefit local groups as well as future students.
